Hello! And welcome to the Heartland Regional Stockyards website. We appreciate your interest and would like to share a little bit about how we came to own the livestock auction barn and commission company.
Lloyd has lived in Logan all his life, and has been a farmer and rancher for his entirety. You may say that’s impossible, but since the day he was walking it was all he wanted to do, and has continued that passion to this day. In 1895 his great-grandfather moved to the family farm where Lloyd and Judy reside today only a half mile away from the original site. Since his great- grandfather came with a registered shorthorn herd, cattle have always been the mainstay of the operation. Lloyd’s parents, Lewis and Janene started the name of LJ Ranch after they were married, and it has remained the name to this day. It has changed to a commercial cow/calf operation that finishes the cattle at the ranch’s feedlot. He is a 4th generation operator and along the way became an entrepreneur and today owns and runs a manufacturing, trucking, and logistics company, among other ventures. He always has an eye out for new ideas and opportunities to make his businesses productive. He is the 3rd generation from his family to graduate from Kansas State University with a Bachelor degree in Animal Science, where he was a member of the AGR fraternity. His hobbies include his work! He is also a member of the Logan School board, the Logan United Methodist Church, KLA, and NCBA.
Judy grew up in Great Bend, KS and after graduating headed to Kansas State University on an athletic scholarship to play tennis. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Kansas, (but claims KSU as her alma mater) and admits she was displaced out of her comfort zone when she married a farmer/rancher! (She’s pretty sure Lloyd only married her because her name started with a J!) However, she realizes that God had a better plan for her than she did, as she loved raising their children on the farm, which created a strong work ethic and moral values. After Lloyd bought her a Saint Bernard puppy for their first anniversary, she continued to raise Saints for 20 years. She now keeps books for the businesses, but her favorite business that they have is the cattle. She substitute teaches for the Logan School, and her hobbies are being the church choir and bell choir director for the Logan United Methodist Church (always seeking more members!), and runs a fireworks stand. Her most enjoyable hobby is spoiling her grandson, Hazen!
Lloyd and Judy have two children, Landon and Libby. Landon is a 5th generation to the family farm. His passion has always been cattle. After graduating from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Animal Science degree, he came back to the family farm to help and has used his knowledge to manage the cow/calf operation. He met his wife, Macey, at KSU, who also has a very strong cattle background and graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Animal Science degree. She is originally from Leoti, KS and her family owns and operates a feedlot. They have one child, Hazen, who will be the 6th generation for the Schneider family! They think he has an excellent chance to be a cattle producer, as he loves the sale barn activity and listening to the auctioneer!
Their daughter Libby went to Texas A&M on an athletic scholarship for the equestrian team. She graduated from A&M with a Bachelor of Animal Science with a meat science certificate. She is currently a veterinary student at Oklahoma State University, specializing in Bovine veterinary medicine. She has always loved the cattle side of the family business, and hopes to return to help NW Kansas and the family feedlot.
When the opportunity was presented to us to take part in a sale barn, we realized that our communities need a place they can take their cattle in this area for a fair, free market auction. We started with the commission company, and have recently purchased the barn. Our goal is to assure you that we recognize the hard work that goes into your cattle and we WANT you to profit from that. We will strive to make your experience of selling your cattle or buying top rate! We want the community and surrounding areas to benefit from this endeavor, and realize that we must earn your business with respect and integrity.
